Here at the Oh! Orlando we like social media and networking, part of the charm of social media is the interaction with people from all over the world. We love the fact now that you can chat with your favourite restaurant in Orlando!
Lots of companies now run really fun social media accounts, they have become quite savvy as to what people want. In the past the social media was a bit ‘dry’ for the want of another word but now it’s fun! Stores, parks and restaurants have realised that things such as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook can be a real boon for advertising up and coming events and that it’s costs are relatively low compared with real advertising.
One of my (Mr Oh Orlando here) faves is the restaurant in Disney Springs called Chicken Guy, owned by Guy Fieri, this place is amazing! And the social media account is really fun too. The tag line ‘welcome to flavourtown’ always makes me smile when I see it pop up on Insta and Twitter. The chicken burgers are none too shabby either…

One of our absolute fave restaurants for breakfast is the Cracker Barrel, a chain of restaurants that serve good old fashioned home cooking with all the fixings. (Google it, we had to…) Their social media account is brilliant, it’s main focus is the staff and the food. Now we mention this not just because the food is superb …. no, really it is! and we’ve converted many people to it! But it’s really the staff and ambience/décor that make the chain. They are next level and we love the fact that the restaurant’s social media account shows them off. Kudos to the Cracker Barrel! We love that the same staff are there year after year, it says something about a company.

Companies now have started showcasing special products and events via social media. You’ll see a certain restaurant saying ‘free sodas for one hour from now’ and bang! The starting gun is fired. They know that the Tweet or Instagram post is gonna go viral, so more sales and free advertising! No one said they were stupid!
What we love about conversations on social media is the near instant reply you get. When we were going to Orlando last year we messaged Virgin Atlantic and asked if they still did the Rocket lolly’s on board? We got a brilliant reply in the form of a meme ‘sorry, Rocket lolly’s no longer served…all hail the mighty Twister lolly’ and then a ‘mic drop’ gif. Really made us laugh…and look forward to our flight and our Twister lolly!! Yum! (For those who have never travelled with Virgin Atlantic, after you’ve had lunch then dim the lights for your nap or for you to watch a film then the trolly with the ice lolly’s comes out! Happy days indeed!)

Accounts such as Walt Disney World and Universal Studios are a gold mine of information, sometimes getting a direct reply can take a little while longer, but they do reply! We love the fact in Disney, for example, if a cast member has gone ‘above and beyond’ for any reason you can tweet WDW and use the hashtag #compliment a cast member. This will get the person or persons the recognition they deserve. In a World as complicated as the one we live in, it feels good to spread the love and happiness by recognising someone’s efforts to make your day better.

We have also found the vast amounts of priceless vloggers and Instagram pages connected with the subject matter we’re looking for. They can get you so much more information so quickly so helpfully, it’ss really useful when on a holiday where time is of the essence. Pages on Instagram are great, we can reach so many folk it’s a bit mind boggling at first, but what we love about it is when you look at one thing you sort of ‘fall down the rabbit hole’ and you never know where or who you will meet during that interaction?? There is a family account called The Lowe Family whom we found on Instagram when researching all things Florida. They are actually in Orlando as we speak! (lucky them!!) We love their account because its the family’s first ever visit to Orlando and the social media posts about it were brilliant! We loved to see the excitement buliding each week and some rather nifty hints and tips for booking Fastpass + 60 days out! Something we were not that sure how to do…well we do now thanks to the Lowe Family!!
As a page ourselves we use 4 main platforms, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, and the main page is the WordPress blog page. All of these have pros and cons, the pros outweigh the cons anyday. It’ss just a matter of trying to keep up with it all on a daily basis! Because after all we all work jobs and live real lives. We love doing this page and genuinely love all the things we show and talk about. If you folks out there think of anything more you would like to see or know more about please drop us a DM on any of our platforms.. see you all soon!!
